On September 18, 2013, the University of British Columbia suspended classes for the first day of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's National Event in Vancouver. A considerable amount of programming and other activity took place on campus to inform people of Indian residential school history and its effects during this time. To learn more about what happened on campus, see http://irsi.aboriginal.ubc.ca.
Please note that, as described on the parent page, that although participants expressed their appreciation and optimism following this event, these videos present accounts of the Indian Residential Schools and their effects that most viewers find emotionally challenging. If you begin to encounter difficulty while or after viewing these videos, we urge you to stop and seek support from one of the services noted below here. Please also note that, while participants were aware of and consented to the recording of this event, the strength of their reactions are often very evident: we urge you to regard their participation with respect.
